Matthew Cooper

Matthew Cooper studied illustration at Harrow School of Art and since
graduating has worked as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer.

His illustrative work utilises a range of techniques and media; collage
and found imagery find a home with photography, hand painted and drawn
elements. He is particularly interested in the use of typographic and
strong graphic forms within his work.

Alongside his illustration work, Matthew works as a freelance graphic
designer, primarily for the music sector. Projects range from sleeve
design, through to the design of adverts, merchandise and promotional
material. He has worked with such luminaries as Arctic Monkeys, Franz
Ferdinand, Four Tet, Caribou, The Go-Betweens, Floating Points, These New
Puritans, Noel Gallagher, Primal Scream, Roddy Frame and Paul McCartney
to name just a few.

His work for The Last Shadow Puppets “Everything You’ve Come To Expect”
album was awarded the “Best Art Vinyl” award in 2016.

He finds his inspiration in the work of, amongst others, Herbert Matter,
Abram Games, Cy Twombly, Robert Rauschenburg, Kurt Schwitters and the
Constructivists; in the far flung edges of the music world; and in the
piles of books, magazines, records, CDs and assorted ephemera, both old
and new, that threaten to over-run both his home and his Shoreditch
studio space.
